Unknown Destination & Unending Drive

“I don’t know where I’m going, but I won’t stop until I get there.”

I was born a creative. I was the kid drawing detailed shoelaces and t-shirt graphics on the stick figures in Kindergarten. I’ve been unable to keep from seeing every minute detail in the world around me since I first opened my eyes. That fused with my innate curiosity ever since — for better or worse!

The path that a creative walks in life can be more like a paint splatter than a line, placing them at the center of radiating avenues, all of which pull with their own gravity. My path has definitely been a splatter, and the pull is real.

“I find myself soaked, with a smile on my face.”

On my journey I’ve overcome addiction and some objectively poor decisions. Through all that I’ve learned and worked in 2D and 3D traditional media, art framing, printmaking, commercial print & production, graphic design, typography, copy writing, art direction, and most recently studio management. In the latter I temporarily set down my own creative output in order to help others. I got to dip my toes into the world of video and music production where I primarily provided technical assistance and minor directional input, while still being able to work on the occasional in-house project.

Creativity is a word that doesn’t fit neatly into a little box of meaning like we’ve come to expect from language, despite my own attempts to force it to. It evades, expands, absorbs, and spills out everywhere, getting on everything around it. I find myself soaked, with a smile on my face. I am constantly compelled to look for that next opportunity to learn and do more…remember the part about addiction? It found a healthy new home.

One can say I’ve taken the long way around, but they can’t seem to say to where. I can’t really say either. It’s hard to pinpoint a moving object, and despite all setbacks I’ve kept moving. I’ll continue to until I find where I fit best, because I’m on a mission.

I don’t know where I’m going, but I won’t stop until I get there.
